Virginia
I've been through Virginia countless times and for a long while it was just another state to get through on the long long drive between the South and my hometown. All that really registered in my head was that one had to turn off one's radar detector when entering the state and, due to an unpaid speeding ticket, my wife wasn't technically allowed to drive there. Virginia was the place that existed between the West Virginia Turnpike and its three inimitable toolboths and the Ohio River. As I began reflecting on these places I have been for the purposes of writing for this website, it occured to me that, despite my previously blatant disregard for its individuality, each place had its own flavor, and its own story to tell.
I visited a friend who lives in Virginia while I was there for work one winter and I was determined to see Washington DC. It wasn;t the best time to see the capital, but we slushed our way through melting snow to have a look at the trappings of democracy. I managed to point my camera at a few sights, have a look for yourself!

I spent a week in Virginia while my ship was entertaining some Midshipmen bent on learning about life aboard a submarine. (As much as they could learn in a week, anyway.) I travelled there for the end of the first job I held after I finished up my contract with the Navy. I was working there when I landed my current job. My first assignment as a Field Engineer was there. A few friends were stationed there and I had the opportunity to visit at least two of them. So it turns out that there's a lot more history between Virginia and myself than I initially realized.
On one such trip, my family insisted on going to the zoo. My son loved seeing all the animals and I nearly walked my feet off, but it was worth every blister. A good friend of mine went with us and he got better pictures than I did, but I offer mine for you to look through.
